After all that talk of fondue, we thought it would be the perfect time to share our very own Mersea Deli Fondue Recipe! 🧀✨ It’s simple, comforting, and made with the finest Gruyère—ideal for those chilly evenings on Mersea Island. Plus, you can get all the delicious cheeses required right here at The Mersea Deli! 🧀🍷 Come in and gather everything you need to create this gooey delight at home. Here’s how to make it at home: The Mersea Deli Fondue Recipe Ingredients: 200g Gruyère cheese, grated 200g Emmental cheese, grated 1 garlic clove, halved 300ml dry white wine 1 tbsp lemon juice 2 tsp cornstarch 2 tbsp kirsch (optional) Freshly ground black pepper Pinch of nutmeg (optional) Crusty bread, boiled potatoes, or veggies for dipping Instructions: Prepare the Pot: Rub the inside of a heavy saucepan (or fondue pot) with the halved garlic clove to give the pot a subtle garlic flavour. Discard the garlic afterward. Heat the Wine: Pour the white wine and lemon juice into the pot and heat gently over medium heat until it's just simmering (but not boiling). Melt the Cheese: Gradually add the grated Gruyère and Emmental cheese to the wine, stirring continuously in a figure-eight motion. Keep the heat low and stir until the cheese melts smoothly. Thicken with Cornstarch: In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the kirsch (or a little water if you're not using kirsch). Stir this mixture into the melted cheese. Keep stirring until the fondue becomes smooth and thick. Season: Add freshly ground black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg to taste. Stir everything well. Serve: Transfer the pot to the table and place it on a fondue stand with a burner to keep the cheese warm. Serve with cubes of crusty bread, boiled potatoes, or vegetables for dipping.
